Frequently Asked Questions?
How long does cabinet painting take?
Most cabinet projects are completed within several days, depending on the size of the project, preparation required, and drying times. We’ll provide a detailed timeline before work begins.
Will painted cabinets hold up over time?
Yes. When properly prepared and coated with premium products, professionally painted cabinets provide a durable finish designed to withstand everyday use.
Can I change my cabinet color completely?
Absolutely. Whether you’re transitioning from dark wood to bright white or updating oak cabinets with a modern color palette, we can help you achieve the look you’re after.
Do you remove cabinet doors before painting?
Yes. Removing doors and drawers allows us to properly prepare and finish every surface, resulting in a cleaner, more consistent appearance.
Can you help me choose a cabinet color?
Yes. We’ll help you select colors that complement your countertops, flooring, backsplash, lighting, and overall design style while creating a timeless look you’ll love for years to come.
Can you change or upgrade our cabinet hardware?
Absolutely! We can replace your existing cabinet knobs and pulls with new hardware during the refinishing process. If your new hardware requires different hole spacing, we can fill the existing holes and drill new ones to accommodate the updated style.
Our Cabinet Refinishing Process
A professional cabinet finish starts long before the final coat of paint. We use a detailed preparation and refinishing process designed to create a smooth, durable, beautiful finish.
1. Remove & Protect
Cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware are carefully removed and labeled. Floors, countertops, appliances, and surrounding surfaces are masked and protected before work begins.
2. Clean & Degrease
All surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and degreased to remove cooking oils, residue, dirt, and contaminants that could interfere with paint adhesion.
3. Sand & Repair
Cabinet surfaces are sanded to promote proper adhesion and smooth existing imperfections. Dents, scratches, and other imperfections are filled as needed and sanded smooth.
4. Prime
Cabinet surfaces are primed with a high-adhesion primer to create a strong foundation for the finish coats and help prevent stains or wood tannins from bleeding through.
5. Fine Sand & Inspect
After priming, surfaces are fine-sanded for an exceptionally smooth finish. Any imperfections revealed by the primer are repaired, sanded, and spot-primed as needed.
6. Apply Finish Coats
Two finish coats of Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel are sprayed to create a smooth, durable, and washable finish.
7. Final Inspection & Reassembly
Once the finish has properly dried, cabinets are inspected for quality, doors and drawers are reinstalled, hardware is replaced, and the work area is cleaned.
